data taxonomy concept

design system

Data taxonomy concept that enhances the readability, type-ability, offline verifiability, and information-carrying capabilities of object identifiers (IDs) for documents and items. Project for Alata Tech (part of The Driving Force Group of Companies).
My role: Defining a new way of building identifiers that are easier to read and type and provide additional layer of meta-information.
SITUATION
Currently, unique strings used to identify assets, documents, and other objects are challenging to comprehend, differentiate between, and cause typing errors when manually entered.
TASK
Define a new pattern for creating identifiers that includes specific metadata to reduce typing errors and improve comprehension of the items associated with those identifiers.
ACTION
Researching current identifiers for various items (documents, assets, etc.). Identifying ways to improve readability and reduce typing errors. Defining new identifier construction methods for different artifacts.
RESULT
The new method of naming and identifying artifacts allows for the inclusion of information about its type, additional metadata, and a control digit used to verify the accuracy of the string entered. The suggested use of QR-codes further simplifies the future usage of identifiers.
